Periodontal therapy is the treatment for periodontal diseases,
which are infections of the structures around the teeth. This
includes the gums, periodontal ligament and alveolar bone. In
the earliest stage of periodontal disease — gingivitis — the
infection affects the gums. In more severe forms of the disease,
all of the tissues are involved. Lack to treatment can lead to
tooth loss and can contribute to serious medical conditions,
such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, blood clots and strokes.
What we can do.
We have extensive experience treating patients requiring
periodontal care. This care may involve deep scaling (cleaning),
gingival (gum) surgery and the placement of dental implants. We
augment this treatment with a revolutionary take home system
called PerioProtect.
What causes periodontal disease?
Periodontal disease is caused by bacteria in dental plaque.
Plaque is the sticky substance that forms on your teeth soon
after you have brushed. In an effort to get rid of the bacteria,
the cells of your immune system release substances that inflame
and damage the gums, periodontal ligament or alveolar bone.
